Geocaching Surprise

Last weekend, we went on our first geocaching adventure.
Michael received a GPS unit for Christmas about 3 years ago, but we've never gone geocaching together.
First, he and Melissa went on a trek to our neighborhood park and found their targeted cache almost immediately. It was hidden in a hollow tree, which required Melissa's smaller hand to retrieve. Then, they tried a cache in another park about 1 mile away, but were unsuccessful. The cache was hidden in a not-so-very-safe neigborhood and we think it was taken at some point.
The next day, Sarah and I went along on another nearby search. Michael found the cache and the girls retrieved it, with Melissa filling out the form with their geocaching name.
We then went to another nearby park to search for a cache the hider called a "nasty" cache. Boy, was that right! The cache was hidden somewhere in the midst of brush, weeds, and poison ivy. We didn't find that cache, but we did find a couple of homeless men camping out in the copse at that park. We apoligized for disturbing them, but on our way back to the car, I noticed a sleeping bag, placed far away from the trees and brush with a doll sitting on it.
At first, I didn't really think anything of it, but the doll on the sleeping bag started to nag at my conscience. This park is located in the middle of a neighborhood and was full of children, playing on the swings, playing basketball, etc. Very few of the kids were accompanied by adults.
By the time we got back home, we decided to call the police. We made it clear that we weren't trying to pick on anyone who didn't have anyplace to go, but that the doll on the sleeping bag made us worried that perhaps there was a homeless child camping in the park with these two adult men or, perhaps worse, that it was placed there as a kind of lure.
I doubt that either scenario was real, but couldn't rest until I knew the police were going to check out the situation.

scenerio three: doll belongs to a mentally ill person who is mentally a child. Just saying.

I would have called the police too. And have. Was it Prospect Park? I can't even begin to tell you what I have found over there. Loaded guns, the shoes of a suicide victim, various paraphanilia, children in the camps.......city park, but when I would call the city would say it was a state park and not their juristiction. Bah.

I was worried about that, too. I hope the person/s will get the help needed, but unfortunately, many are unable/unwilling to get that help...
This was actually at Good Park on University.

That does seem odd.
