Egg-citement!

Our first eggs! Melissa checked yesterday at about noon and found these two beauties. They aren't even small, as I expected pullet eggs to be. After glorying in our first "harvest," and taking wayyy too many pictures, Melissa put the eggs to good use.

We were delighted with how firm and orange the yolks were - just like free-range eggs from happy hens ought to be!

The color is a little off on this picture, but Melissa made a delicious yellow cake with chocolate frosting.

YEY!! Success on the eggs, very nice. How many hens do you have? And well done to Melissa on such good use of them :-)

We have ten hens that arrived in early September. I can't believe how exciting it is to gather our own eggs!

I keep thinking about your hens. Very exciting. I've wanted hens for a while, but Matt is really really really not into hobby farming. Just last year, after ten years of being in this house, did he say with pride to his parents that the rhubarb and strawberries in their dessert came from our garden. Could you write about the evolution of your local eating perspective?
