We happened upon a little scene of death and survival on our back steps the other day.

The spider was quite persistent, but the grasshopper never gave up the fight.


The spider repeatedly charged the grasshopper, but its bites didn't seem to have much impact on the insect.

This dance of death was taking too long.

Melissa and Sarah decided to help poor Miss Spider along.


They tied the grasshopper to this stick using the spider's webbing.

Surely this would do the trick and the spider would have a nice meal for all its efforts.

Alas, the grasshopper proved too strong for this arachnid and made its escape.

Poor spider.

Gulp. Maybe not...
