I had no idea walking sticks could be green! Melissa spotted this guy on our garage door last week and we all trooped out to see it.
We once kept a brown walking stick for a pet several years ago, but nobody wanted to capture this beauty. He's amazing, isn't he?

I always thought praying mantises were green. Then in Texas, last spring, we saw a brown one! Isn't it funny little we know? Cliff (well me) and I had a long learning session about that.
I think mantis and walking stick..grasshoppers turn brown when mature. Maybe not all species, but a lot of them. Probably change to match surroundings of drying foliage.
